Bridging the Gap

Today, I ran the Belle Island trail for my 3 mile Monday run. For those unfamiliar with Belle Island (as I was before I ran the run), it is a dirt / asphalt / wood plank / stone trail accessible from the Richmond side of the water by a pedestrian suspension bridge. Sane people would walk over to the island. Me? I made the climb part of my run.

The run itself was hilly, humid, and somewhat confusing. Though my time suffered because of both hills and my getting slightly lost a couple of times, I had a freaking blast running this one.

The picture was taken from the suspension bridge, which hangs under the Route 1 highway bridge. You’re looking at downtown Richmond as viewed by my slightly sweaty iPhone.
