So, I will be going to Iraq sometime in July, to return sometime in July – August of next year. Without going into too many details, I will be getting paid very, very well to do what I do here. Should I and my family handle it well, I may even extend the stay to two years and make enough money to (with some smart investing) retire well-off and happy by age 40.

Or hell, age 36 if things go really well.

Yes, yes. I will be careful. Yes, I will write to people who bother to write to me. And yes, should I have the ability to do so, I’ll update my blog, post to Facebook, and hang out on Twitter. At the very least, I’ll send my posts back via mail to be entered by a trusted third party.
